Bugs was modeled after Clark Gable’s character Peter Warne from the film It Happened One Night. Additionally, the character Oscar Shapeley from that film referred to Warne as “Doc,” and Warne mentioned a fictitious person named “Bugs Dooley” to run Shapeley away.
