Non-musical history for today: 1556 – The thirteen Stratford Martyrs (11 men and two women) were burned at the stake near London for their Protestant beliefs. What would they have done to atheists?

Also…
1844 – Joseph Smith, founder of the Latter Day Saint movement, and his brother Hyrum Smith were killed by a mob at the Carthage, Illinois jail. The Nauvoo Expositor newspaper had been newly established by anti-polygamist ex-Mormons who had recently been excommunicated from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The newspaper’s first (and only) issue criticized Smith and other church leaders, correctly reporting that Smith was practicing polygamy, marrying the wives of other men, teaching a “plurality of Gods”, and alleging that he intended to set himself up as a theocratic king. After a vote of the Nauvoo City Council, Mayor Joseph Smith ordered the Expositor’s press destroyed. They didn’t like it. So, the Smiths were arrested for “treason” and set to stand trial when the ex-Mormons killed them.

Both today’s history nuggets involve killing in the name of God. This sounds like the BS happening right now.
