Non-musical history for today: 1956 – The Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956 was signed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, officially creating the United States Interstate Highway System. The supposed requirement that one of every five miles must be straight to permit airplanes to land in case of emergency is false. While some sections of Interstates are straight, this is due to various factors like terrain, cost, and the location of cities, which are not mandated design features.
