Non-musical history for today: 1979 – A coolant leak at the Three Mile Island’s Unit 2 nuclear reactor outside Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, led to the core overheating and a partial meltdown. It is the worst accident in U.S. commercial nuclear power plant history, although fortunately, its small radioactive releases had no detectable health effects on plant workers or the public. So, here is the eerie part: The China Syndrome was released just 12 days before this incident. That film is about a nuclear reactor accident. The film won the Palme d’Or (the highest honor, like “Best Picture”), and Jack Lemmon won best actor at the Cannes Film Festival in 1979.

Music history, album anniversaries, birthdays, and deaths for March 28.

Recorded in the Omniverus Podcast Studios at Liberty Plaza.
