Non-musical history for today: 1855 – “Border Ruffians” from Missouri invaded Kansas and forced the election of a pro-slavery legislature. Crimes committed by border ruffians included electoral fraud, intimidation, assault, property damage, and murder. The actions were somewhat the basis of the Civil War. Committing crimes led to what is collectively known as “Bleeding Kansas,” many border ruffians took pride in their reputation as criminals.
