Non-musical history for today: 1902 – Cuba gained independence from the United States. Tomás Estrada Palma became the country’s first President. I don’t know that I ever knew the US controlled Cuba. This came as a trade with Spain to end the Spanish-American War. We got Cuba, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines for $20M in 1898.
