Non-musical history for today: 1923 – The Mandate for Palestine took effect, creating Mandatory Palestine. The Mandate for Syria and Lebanon also took effect. The Syria and Lebanon parts took. Mandatory Palestine, however, was a harder pill to swallow. Mandatory Palestine (which meant by mandate, not compulsory or required) was inundated with Jewish immigrants, and this led to an Arab revolt in the 1930s and the Jewish uprising in the late 1940s. We know that Israel was given statehood in 1948, and it was pretty much stolen from the Palestinians by the UN.
