Jesus Unleashed
Before and After
September 30, 2018
“All eyes on Jesus!”
“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord,
continue to live your lives in Him…” Colossians 2:6
“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things
above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.” Colossians 3:1
Jesus Unleashed!
The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God, 2 as it is written in Isaiah the prophet: “I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way” 3 “a voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for Him.’ ” Mark 1:1-3
And this was his message: “After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. 8 I baptize you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
9 At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, He saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on Him like a dove. 11 And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” Mark 1:7-11
1: Preparation (v2-3): John came
2: Obedience (V 9): Jesus came
3: Validation (V 11): a voice came
4: Demonstration (V 12): Jesus was sent. V 13: angels came.
1: Preparation: Nazareth—a nothing kind of place
Thought: Could it be that you’re in a place of preparation
John tried to deter Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and you come to me? 5 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” The John consented. Matthew 3:14-15
2: Obedience (v9): Jesus did what was required of Him
3: Validation (v11b): “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”
App: The Father’s love is based on relationship, not performance
Question: Where is God calling you to step out in obedience?
4: Demonstration (v12): From validation to the wilderness
App: Prove the Father’s validation in the wilderness
And the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered for a short time, will Himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To Him be the power forever and ever. Amen. 1Peter 5:10
What is God’s Spirit speaking into your life today? How must you respond?
