Beginnings and Introductions

The New River Podcast is hosted by Virginia Tech Creative Writing MFA students who also edit The New River Journal. The podcast began (in 2025) as a companion to what was the first journal (1996) to feature only electronic literature and digital art. Season One explored the journal’s mission and the project of associating a podcast with its editorial traditions. Season Two follows tandem evolutions as the journal begins accepting traditionally formatted poetry and prose, and the podcast broadens its focus to include observations on navigating life in a graduate MFA program in Creative Writing.
