Behavioral Profiling: The Dark Side of the Information Age

Progress has always been marked by the new and different ideas of individuals.  Consider Thomas Edison and the light bulb, or the Wright Brothers at Kitty Hawk.  One cannot consider these landmarks of human ingenuity apart from the eras in which they occurred—eras which were free from such things as “Psych-Graphics,” “Behavioral Profiling” and “Data Mining.”  The advent of invasive data gathering is an insidious threat to progress and a worthwhile future.  Psychological questionnaires given to schoolchildren often include questions which are designed to identify so-called “mental illness” based on a child's answers to questions related to such topics as social situations and even one's religious affiliations.  Former editor-in-chief of NASA's newspaper at the Johnson Space Center, author and educator Beverly Eakman explains how this information gathering is affecting our liberty and privacy, our progress as a society and what you can do to protect yourself and your family in this 36-minute show.
