The plight of immigrants arriving at the US-Mexico border was given a human face this week, when a two-year-old girl from Honduras was photographed crying as her mother was searched by border officers. Today, the Honduran foreign ministry, and a man who says he’s the girl’s father, say the girl and her mother were not separated after they arrived at the US. Nonetheless, the striking image has become a symbol for those campaigning for better treatment of people seeking asylum in the US.
