“I think of self-care as taking care of my body, mind, energy and soul. I have learned to take this role very seriously because it is foundational to all that I do at work and home.”
I was definitely sold early on the idea that self-care is getting a pedicure, a regular massage, or going to yoga class. Two problems with this. First, both are pretty big things! Second, they made me think of self-care as something “extra,” as a luxury.
Self-care is not extra!!! It is necessary, especially for those of us who call ourselves caregivers. We have to fill our cups in order to be able to fully give to those we love with no “martyre energy” attached.
It has taken me years to REALLY walk my talk in this regard. Today I thought I would pull back the curtain of my thinking about self-care today.
