Penned in 1700, Samuel Wesley, Sr. Was a penniless and unpopular Anglican pastor. This is the only known surviving hymn from the father of the famous Wesley brothers, but it became the forerunner for the many wonderful hymns that later flowed from the pen of Samuels famous hymn-writing son, Charles.
