Loud Slurp

Being a Chinese journalist, is that even possible?

Listen Later

In this episode, Owen Guo, who worked for the Financial Times and the New York Times for seven years in Beijing, joins us to talk about working as a Chinese journalist for foreign media in China and all the obstacles he and many of his Chinese colleagues had to overcome to produce stories that help readers all over the world to get a comprehensive and up-close look at the giant nation. He also shares with us some of the most memorable stories he encountered in everyday Chinese life and on reporting trips. Last but not least, we discuss the prospect of Chinese nationals practicing independent journalism in China and the broader implications of recent restrictions placed on Chinese news assistants and researchers working in foreign media outlets.
