Being a Good Sales Person - DMN8 the Day 172

Listen Later

I hear a lot of people say this, constantly. I'm really good at sales. I'm really good at sales, really good at "saling". I'm really good at it. Are you? Are you good at it? A lot of times what we think is selling, isn't selling, it's telling, right? So how do you get better at being a good salesperson? Well, you get better by reps, and what are reps? Reps are practicing. Constantly practicing. Like Kobe Bryant, he wanted to become the best outside shooter in the league. So what did he do? Put up J's, all the time. I think there was a time like in the off-season we put up 4,000 shots in a day, during the season put up a thousand shots. I don't know if you've ever shot a hundred times in a row, but your arms are gonna feel like jello after about 500 times, he's putting up 4,000 shots in the off-season. Now, to be clear, he's not chasing down the ball cause he's got people rebounding for him, but he's still putting up 4,000 mother-f'ing shots. That's a lot of freaking shots, but he got better. He developed an outside jump shot. His three-point percentage started getting above 35%, which if you shoot above 33%, that's better than taking twos. If you shoot 33% from three that's better than shooting 50% from two. Do the math, it is. And so he wanted to become a better outside shooter. So he put up J's, constantly. So you wanna become a better salesperson? Are you practicing? How do you practice? Can't go to the gym and put up J's and all of a sudden become a better salesperson. That would be awesome if you could, but I digress. So what's the best way that you can practice as a salesperson. Number one, this is really, I mean, this is super secret sh*t right here. This is what the sales Illuminati gods won't tell you, and I'm gonna tell right now the number one way that you practice selling is by asking questions. That's number one, ask questions. Number two, and this is like the secret of secrets, nobody wants to tell you this sh*t. The second thing you need to practice to become better at sales is listening. Ask questions, listen. And then the third thing you need to do is ask more questions. And then the fourth thing you need to do is listen more. Are you getting the drift here? Ask questions, listen, ask questions, listen. See selling isn't telling, it's listening to find out what the problem is and then providing a solution, but we want a diarrhea vomit all over with everything that we have about how our process is the greatest, we have the greatest equipment, our trucks look so beautiful, we've wear these sexy race car shirts like blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Nobody cares. All they care about is the problem that they have with their house or their business that they've called you to fix and they want you to fix it. So how are you gonna fix it? And instead of worrying about all the features, all the shiny benefits, you should be listening to what their problem is, so you can provide them a solution that solves the problem cause that's what selling is, providing solutions to problems. It's not telling, it's not looking at my shiny new equipment, look at my beautiful truck. It is literally listening, providing solutions. So, you wanna get better at selling? Unfortunately, you can't go to the gym, start putting up jump shots, you're going to be a better seller. It ain't gonna happen. You would be a better shooter, but you won't be a better seller. You wanna get better at selling? Ask questions, listen, ask questions, listen. You do those things, you'll DMN8 the day.   If you're interested in learning more about Gary Geiman and/or DMN8 Partners, you can visit these online resources for more information:   https://salvonow.com https://www.facebook.com/gwgeiman72 https://www.facebook.com/dmn8partners https://www.youtube.com/c/TheMarketingMafia   or you can email Gary at [email protected] or call the office at 859-757-2252.
