Sermon Series: Redefined I Scripture: 2 Corinthians 6:1-13
KLC 2015 Theme: Seeking His Kingdom
"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."
Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)

Background:

• The Corinthian church was established by the apostle Paul during his second missionary journey (Acts 18). He spent at least 18 months with this church, teaching and developing leaders.

• In spite of the time Paul invested in them, the.church remained spiritually immature, reflecting the culture rather than Christ. 1 Corinthians addressed many of the behavior and doctrinal issues that arose after his departure. Some in the church didn't receive it and questioned his motives.
• In 2 Corinthians Pa.ul explains his actions since his absence and defends his ministry.
• In chapters 5 Paul states that believers are new creations with a new purpose (ambassadors of Christ). In chapter 6 Paul describes how we do it.

Review: Christians are Ambassadors for Christ with a Ministry of Reconciliation:

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:18-21 (ESV)

Paul's Message: "God has given Christians the responsibility of sharing the message of reconciliation with the world."
The Principle: Ambassadors for Christ carry the message of reconciliation. The reconciled are called to be reconcilers. If we fail to offer reconciliation to anyone, it's evidence we need to be fully reconciled to God ourselves.

2 Corinthians 6:1-2

1 Working together with him, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain. 2 For he says, "In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you." Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:1-2 (ESV)

Paul's Message: "I'm PLEADING with you, be fully reconciled to God!"

The Principle: Be PASSIONATE about the message of reconciliation.

Life Questions: What EXCITES you the most about who God is or what He's done? How can you share that passion with one person this week?

2 Corinthians 6:3-5

3 We put no obstacle in anyone's way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, 4 but as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: by great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, 5 beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, sleepless nights, hunger;

2 Corinthians 6:3-5 (ESV)

Paul's Message: "My ENDURANCE through various types of adversity commends my ministry to others."

The Principle: Adversity can be an ASSET or a HINDRANCE to your presentation of Christ.

Life Questions: Can you think of a time God used your TRIALS  for someone else's spiritual WELL BEING? Do you need to repent of a COMPLAINING spirit? (Phil 2:14) (Think of who's watching you and what they need to see)

2 Corinthians 6:6

6 by purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, the Holy Spirit, genuine love; 2 Corinthians 6:6 (ESV)

Paul's Message: "I'm the real deal." ..

The Principle: There's no substitute for being a GENUINE, AUTHENTIC Christ-follower. Let other's see it.

Life Questions: Did you allow God to work through you this week? How did it happen? Did you plan for it in advance or was it a surprise?

(2 Co 3:18 being changed, Mt 5:16 let others see it)
