Sermon Series: Redefined I Scripture: 2 Corinthians 6:1-13
KLC 2015 Theme: Seeking His Kingdom
"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."
Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)

Background:

• The Corinthian church was established by the apostle Paul during his second missionary journey (Acts 18). He spent at least 18 months with this church, teaching and developing leaders.

• In spite of the time Paul invested in them, the.church remained spiritually immature, reflecting the culture rather than Christ. 1 Corinthians addressed many of the behavior and doctrinal issues that arose after his departure. Some in the church didn't receive it and questioned his motives.

• In 2 Corinthians Pa.ul explains his actions since his absence and defends his ministry.
• In chapters 5 Paul states that believers are new creations with a new purpose (ambassadors of Christ). In chapter 6 Paul describes how we do it.

Review: Christians are Ambassadors for Christ with a Ministry of Reconciliation:

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:18-21 (ESV)

Paul's Message: "God has given Christians the responsibility of sharing the message of reconciliation with the world." How do we do that?

By being 1) Passionate, 2) Committed, and 3) Authentic (from "Being Ambassadors-Part 1 (3-1-15)"

2 Corinthians 6:7a
7 by truthful speech, and the power of God; 2 Corinthians 6:7a (ESV)

Paul's Message: "Faithfully speaking the TRUTH commends my ministry to others."
The Principle: MANIPULATING God's word displays a lack of FAITH in God.
Life Question: Do you HUMBLE yourself to God's word or stand in JUDGMENT of it?

2 Corinthians 6:7b-8a

7 with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; 8  through honor and dishonor, through slander and praise. 2 Corinthians 6:7b-8a (ESV)

Paul's Message: "I am fully equipped for spiritual WARFARE."

The Principle: Living righteously through the HIGHS and LOWS of people's opinions commends you and Jesus to everyone. (1 Peter 2:12)
Life Question: If you are facing false accusations or generous praise, what can you do to turn it into a WITNESS for Christ?

2 Corinthians 6:8b-10

8  We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; 9  as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold, we live; as punished, and yet not killed; 10  as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, yet possessing everything. 2 Corinthians 6:8-10 (ESV)

Paul's Message: "I am not DEFINED by my situation."

The Principle: Because of our CONFIDENCE in God, Christians always have a reason to be hopeful. In this hopeless age, being OPTIMISTIC attracts others to Christ.
Life Questions: Are you an optimistic, hopeful person? Is your hope primarily dictated by your situation or environment? How can you begin to receive God's comfort today??
