I’ve never met a young person who didn’t want to be cool. In fact, I’ve never met anybody who didn’t crave acceptance!
Today’s social networking and access to the Internet only fans the flame of that age-old desire to impress others. Now kids can strut their stuff to a watching world with the click of a mouse. And if you know teens, you know they’re prone to exaggeration.
Mom and Dad, keep an eye on your child’s online activities. Take the exaggeration with a grain of salt. But be sure to monitor images your child is sharing with others that might cause problems or damage relationships.
Don’t allow being cool online to move in an inappropriate direction your son or daughter will deeply regret later. It’s our job to protect our kids …even when they can’t see into the future.
