I went clothes shopping with my eldest daughter last night. She has grown over the summer and needs new clothes.
When I was a young boy, I remember going to the Lion Store in Westgate Shopping Center. My mom had taken me there to buy a suit.
But, I don’t often remember going shopping with my dad. It happened to the grocery store or to the hardware store, but it wasn’t as frequent.
This was a result, in part, because of the roles they played in the family. Dad was working full time and also had a very long commute. Mom didn’t work as many hour, for many years, while we were all younger.
It’s natural to take this experience and make it your normal. It’s easy to fall into resentment when life throws you a curve ball.
As dad, sometimes it’s tough to ebb and flow you want to go full steam ahead. Sometimes the ebb and flow is full steam ahead when you take a few steps back. When you zoom out and look at things from a higher perspective, the lessons you learned, and are learning, may actually appear to be a straighter line than you can see up close.
Remember to give some mercy to yourself and others along the way.
