GET DOING THINGS.

Being good at presenting to audiences is not an optional skill

Listen Later

The vast majority of the population avoid learning how to communicate their ideas to an audience. Creatives included.
People avoid it for the same reasons they avoid most things: it scares them, or it challenges them.
You’ll never regret learning to present your ideas to an audience effectively and with confidence.
It is a universal skill that you will use over and over throughout your career and others.
You will appear more confident, more capable to others, and just better at your job by prioritising this skill.
I genuinely believe to be the best at your job, not just as a creative, you need to learn to be a good communicator to an audience. I don’t see this as an optional skill.
How do you learn? You learn by doing. At first, it’s going to be really scary to present to an audience. It was for me.
Study presentation skills. They can be learned. They don’t happen by accident. Study stand up comedians and politicians.
Find a local meetup, conference, or something like @bettakultcha or Pecha Kucha near you to try out your ideas and techniques in a safe environment.
Make it a priority in your life to learn to be a good orator. You can learn it, and you won’t regret it. Introvert or Extrovert doesn’t come into this.
