Being laid off is a right of passage in sales, it happens to everyone is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. Ashleigh and Kasey discuss why you should look at it with optimism.
SHOW NOTES
What Laid off Means
-Being laid off is essentially termination without cause, meaning that the company has decided they no longer need your services for any number of reasons aside from you doing something wrong.
-If you ask your employer if you qualify and they say yes, it’s termination without cause.
Be Transparent
-In a LinkedIn post, Ashleigh discussed having recently been laid off and received an outpouring of support from her network.
-One of the best things about being transparent about your situation is having the ability to control the negative. If you don’t treat being laid off as a bad thing, there’s a good chance future employers won’t either.
Why It Isn’t a Bad Thing
-It is neither a reflection of you or your skills as a salesperson. It’s not your fault.
-If you keep the right attitude, you’ll leave on good terms with your employer and have a wonderful reference.
-This can be a bonding experience. There are a ton of people out there going through the same situation.
-The process of finding a new job becomes easier. You have time, most likely severance, and the ability to say it wasn’t your fault.
Positivity
-It can be hard to be laid off. Give yourself the space to feel what you need to feel and then try to get excited and look at the situation optimistically. Don’t complain, blame, and point fingers. Have a nice attitude and faith that your next opportunity will be a better fit for you.
