The ego doesn't know how to make sense of any daily happenings. Pay careful attention to any reactivity to daily happenings, and there's your evidence. If ego knew how to guide you smoothly, there wouldn't be a need for any reaction. The dependence here is switching. Ego says it knows, and now you remember that ego can only mislead back into the fear loop. Now you remember that true knowing is something for you to accept and share.
