Like the martyrs, they know that they too will one day be resurrected “immortal, imperishable, incorruptible”—and they will receive the “crown of righteousness,” “the crown of glory,” and “the crown of life.” So they are willing to endure hardship for the sake of the gospel, with eyes that look beyond time and space—eyes that truly pierce into the eternal spectrum. The pre-tribulational rapture theory, popularized by John Nelson Darby in the nineteenth century, contends that God has two distinct people and two distinct plans for their two distinct destinies. The church will be raptured—what David Jeremiah dubs “the Great Disappearance—seven years prior to the second coming of Christ, and Jews will suffer tribulation.
