Believers Fellowship Church 05 - 24 - 20 Growing Deep Part 2: A Call to Fast and pray: Pr. Gerald

Listen Later

Fasting is to voluntarily abstain and replace eating/drinking for an extended period of time to focus on our relationship with God. “Eating” and “drinking” can be represented by anything you “consume” in terms of social food, intellectual food, spiritual food, and emotional food. Abstaining for a safe period of time from our “foods” and replacing with pray and worship can help us realign our priorities from being overly concerned with the physical world and draw us closer to heaven’s priorities.

The point is to abstain from a daily food or activity for a period of time so that you can spend more time with God in prayer, worship, and bible reading thus realigning our priorities and knowing him more. Don’t cheat yourself by removing yourself from the fast entirely if you mess up. Ask God for forgiveness and keep going. The purpose of the fast is not to cause pain by depriving you of something you like or need but to help us switch our focus from daily concerns to a Heavenly perspective
