The 2020 Summer Olympics officially the Games of the XXXII Olympiad 32nd and also known as Tokyo 2020 (東京2020), is an upcoming international multi-sport event scheduled to be held from 23 July to 8 August 2021 in Tokyo, Japan.
Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the event was postponed in March 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and will not allow international spectators.
This morning we have the privilege of crossing live to Tokyo, Japan to talk with a Samoan born and raised judo athlete who will be representing Samoa at the Tokyo Olympics.
Ben Percival lived his childhood and teenage years in Samoa, before moving to Boston, USA, (where his mother is from) for university.
After graduating in 2018 with a double bachelors degree in Environmental Studies and International & Global Studies (Brandeis University), Ben returned home for a year before moving to Osaka, Japan, to further pursue his passion of Judo.
Since then, he has competed in a number of international competitions including the Pacific Games (where he won a bronze medal), the 2019 Judo World Championships, and the 2020 Paris Grand Slam.
Growing up in an art studio, his other passion is art: producing music and making bonecarvings.
