Cardio burns off muscle and fat, which in turn slows your metabolism and decreases your body's ability to burn fat.
Thus, if you DO NOT eat a diet high in protein and lower in carbs and fats the less muscle your body has, the lower its metabolism, and the higher at-risk you are to gain weight quickly.
