Best Tips For Headshots

Listen Later

Hello, I am Anna Mc Connell - Transformational Life Coach and Wardrobe Stylist, I help women and transwomen to create a wardrobe to match their lifestyle, bring out their true personality and simplify their life.

A community question was recently asked.

The question is: “I am getting head shots done soon, what is your best advice on selecting what to wear?’

This is a great question.

Several things are to consider, you are using your headshots for social media, website, print, therefore business, you want to look professional, approachable and trustworthy.

  • So you want to determine who you want to appeal to?
  • Who is your audience/clients you want to relate to?
  • You want to convey a message that suits the industry you are working in
  • To be memorable and communicate who you really are
  • Although simplicity is always best, you may want to show your personality with your signature style. A signature is something that you are immediately recognizable by, It may be the jewelry you wear, scarves, unique glasses or the way you wear your hair or makeup. Many celebrities have defined their brand with a signature style. I’m sure you can think of at least 5 right now.
  • In terms of colors, the right colors should brighten your eyes and even out your skin tone. I’m sure you have been complimented many times on how radiant you looked or how glowing you were, those were your colors.
  • Everyone can wear most colors, it all depends on the right shade of that color. For instance, I can wear a grass green which will make my eyes pop whereas a pale green, I will look as if I have jandice, the tone is very important.
  • Check yourself in daylight against a white background as artificial lighting tend to change the color tone.
  • Bold colors, jewel tones or solid are excellent choices for most skin tones. Blues are general favorites.
  • To convey formality, colors such as brown, grey or navy are good choices.
  • Black and stark white may cast shadows with artificial lighting and harsher on most skin tones. If you do want to wear black, wear a brighter color near your face or choose a cream instead of white.
  • Avoid red if you have a pink undertone, it will bring out the red pigments in your skin tone.
  • Most of these rules also apply to video. I hope this has helped.

Have a lovely day,

Bye
