Is there anything better than a brand new episode of Better Lait Than Never to celebrate the midway point of the week? No, of course not. This week, I talked about Costco hot dog live, Connor McDavid's 1,000th point, Darnell Nurse being hurt, Kasperi Kapanen being claimed, and much more.
I kicked off this week's episode of BLTN by recapping the response to my idea about how many days I could live on nothing but Costco hot dogs before getting bored. Unsurprisingly, people had so many takes on how this bit will go that I'm getting to a spot where I almost have to do it. From there, I spent a few minutes talking about how annoying and disappointing the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight was, and how the whole night was basically saved by the undercard.
Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, I started the news with a conversation about Connor McDavid's 1,000th point, and how that milestone was so bananas that I need to keep talking about it. Even though we've gotten so used to McDavid's brilliance at this stage, I will never stop beating the drum of asking people to enjoy what they're watching because it's anything but normal. I also touched on the recent eastern Canadian road trip, the team claiming Kasperi Kapanen off waivers, Darnell Nurse's injury, and everything else that's going on with the team.
Finally, I wrapped up this quick episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about whining on BlueSky before wrapping up the show with another round of voicemails. The inbox was alive with beef this week, and those back-and-forths made me laugh and laugh. If you've been listening to the podcast for any length of time, you know that I love hip hop, and beef sells records. As always, I sat back and laughed while listening to everything that's been on your mind over the last seven days.

Is there anything better than a brand new episode of Better Lait Than Never to celebrate the midway point of the week? No, of course not. This week, I talked about Connor McDavid being one point away from 1000, Viktor Arvidsson being banged up, my excitement for the Tyson/Paul fight, and much more.
I kicked off this week's episode of BLTN by recapping my idea about how many days I could live on nothing but Costco hot dogs. I was talking about this at my house the other day and was surprised by the lack of support I was getting for what could end up as funny content. I also discussed the feedback I've received so far for the new Better Lait Than Never logo I made this past week, and much to my surprise, many folks loved it.
Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, I started the news with another tribute to Connor McDavid, who is now only a single point away from 1000 after a four-point performance last night against the Islanders. When McDavid is at his best, there's no one more entertaining to watch in this sport, and the Islanders got a dose of what that felt like on Tuesday night. I also looked ahead at Edmonton's upcoming schedule, and with the Nashville Predators in town on Thursday, I'm banking on a big night from the Dynamic Duo.
Finally, I wrapped up this quick episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about getting older before wrapping up the show with another round of voicemails. The inbox was alive with beef this week, and that made me laugh and laugh.

This week, I talked about Connor McDavid's super-human healing powers, the Oilers' recent roster moves, recapped the Monday night game on Prime, and much more.
Starting the podcast, how could I not talk about what happened in the US last night with the presidential election? Not that I wanted to dive into politics at all, but the reaction to the results was quite a wild dive into the human experience. Moving along quickly, I then recapped Monday's Oilers game on Amazon Prime, which was the first of four nights we'll have on the streaming platform. From the product to the experience to the presentation, I offered my take on what it was like to watch hockey differently.
Keeping with the Oilers, I kicked off the news with the stunning revelation that Connor McDavid will be back in the Oilers lineup only nine days after suffering an ankle injury on his first shift against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Given that he was supposed to be out of the lineup for 2-3 weeks, seeing him on the top line at Wednesday's morning skate was certainly a surprise. Then again, should we be surprised? If there's one thing Connor McDavid has done repeatedly in his career, it's defying the odds when it comes to his recovery time, and this ankle injury was just the latest example.
Finally, I wrapped up this quick episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about off-leash dogs before wrapping up the show with another round of voicemails. The inbox was quiet but mighty this week, but that didn't mean you fine folks didn't still make me laugh anyway. As always, I can't help but sit back and laugh while listening to everything that's been on your mind over the last seven days.

The Oilers took one of their most disappointing losses in memory on Monday in Columbus, and the mood around Oil Country is back in the dumps. Is there hope? Are we doomed? Let's talk about it in this week's episode of Better Lait Than Never.
I kicked off this week's episode of BLTN with a look back on Friday's Pittsburgh Penguins game and how it was the most fun I've had an Oilers game in quite some time. Not only did I have a blast with the boys, but we even ended up at the casino together afterward in the hopes of great wins. I also spent a few minutes talking about the World Series and the insane moment that happened in last night's game when a Yankees fan tried to pull a ball out of Mookie Betts' hand.
Turning the podcast to the Oilers, I had to start with the news that Connor McDavid will be out of Edmonton's lineup for the next 2-3 weeks with an ankle injury. While that timeline isn't as bad as it could have been for our captain, the Oilers will need a bunch of players to step up in his absence. I mean, if Monday's game against the Blue Jackets is any indication of what the team will look like without their captain, then we are in a world of trouble.
Finally, I wrapped up this quick episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about other fanbases cheering for injuries before wrapping up the show with another round of voicemails. The inbox was quieter again this week, but that didn't mean you fine folks didn't still make me laugh anyway. I certainly had a healthy chuckle listening to everything that's been on your mind over the last seven days.

The Oilers racked up a pair of disappointing losses against the Stars and Hurricanes, and the mood around Oil Country is back in the sewer. Is there hope? Are we doomed? Let's talk about it in this week's episode of Better Lait Than Never.
I kicked off this week's episode of BLTN by wondering aloud how it's possible that the Oilers 2024-25 season feels nearly identical to the disastrous start from a year ago. At 2-4-1 through seven games, it's not like the Oilers are down and out or anything like that, but I'm genuinely puzzled that a team this talented can allow this slow start to happen again.
Digging into what's gone wrong, I started the news by looking at the losses against Dallas and Carolina. Both of those games were well within reach for our boys, but the lack of goal-scoring is really making it difficult for the team to gain any traction. That said, I also feel like it's a matter of time before Edmonton's luck starts to turn and pucks start going in the net, but it's been painful watching them struggle to get there.
Making matters worse, some of our former friends are finding success in new markets while their old stomping grounds continue to struggle offensively. So, even though many of us believe the Oilers will turn things around, this early part of the season has been a tough pill to swallow. As the losses continue to pile up, the fanbase keeps getting more and more restless and louder about voicing their displeasure.
Finally, I wrapped up this quick episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about the deja-vu feelings we're all working through before wrapping up the show with another round of voicemails. The inbox was quieter again this week, but that didn't mean you fine folks didn't still make me laugh anyways. I certainly had a healthy chuckle listening to everything that's been on your mind over the last seven days.

It wouldn't be a Wednesday without your favourite podcast no one has ever heard of serving up a fresh episode to massage your earholes and guide you through what's left of the week.
I kicked off this week's podcast with a behind-the-scenes update from Nation HQ that had basically the whole staff cheering for Oilers losses. I know that sounds like something that shouldn't happen at a company called Oilersnation, but things tend to change when Tyler Yaremchuk makes a cat food bet. And seeing as last night's game was the deciding factor in whether or not Tyler got back into the meow mix, the results had everyone in our orbit dialled into every goal and mistake.
Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, the team won their first game of the season last night against Philadelphia, but they sure didn't make it easy on themselves. Starting with two quick power play goals against, the Oilers found themselves in a hole before the first period was even half-over, and I don't think I'm talking out of school when I said the vibes were anything but bright. Fortunately, a pair of scraps from two unlikely combatants seemed to right the ship a little bit, and our boys went on to win, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't look dicey there for a minute.
Finally, I wrapped up this quick episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about goaltender interference before wrapping up the show with another round of voicemails. The inbox was a lot quieter this week, which was a significant change of pace from where we've been at over the last couple of episodes, but that didn't mean you fine folks didn't still make me laugh anyways. I certainly had a healthy chuckle listening to everything that's been on your mind over the last seven days.

The Oilers opened their season with a 6-0 beatdown at the hands of the Winnipeg Jets, and I donโt think Iโm talking out of school when I say that this was not the start any of us wanted to see.ย The good news is that a bunch of the VMs that came in this week were from before that horrible first game even happened, so the podcast was still filled with hope... kinda.

After a couple of months of making up nonsense to pass the time, the Edmonton Oilers kick off their 2024-25 season tonight against the Winnipeg Jets, and that means a game day episode of Better Lait Than Never is here to capture the excitement.
With only a few hours to wait until puck drop, I cranked out a non-traditional episode of BLTN to capture the community's excitement and tee off what I hoped would be a fantastic night at Rogers Place. Having never been to a banner-raising ceremony before, I was pumped to get back to the rink and watch them hang up a reminder to commemorate an unbelievable season. No, it wasn't the banner we wanted to see go up at Rogers Place, but I was choosing to treat this one like an appetizer.
Changing gears, a lot of Oilers news has happened since the last podcast, and I tried to make as much sense of it as possible. From roster decisions to trying to make sense of the salary cap situation with Kane going on the LTIR, I walked through the week's biggest stories and offered my take on how those stories will impact the upcoming season. I mean, that was the plan at least. As you'll hear, anything to do with math is the last thing I should comment on, but I gave it the ol' college try anyway.
Finally, I wrapped up this quick episode of BLTN with a guest Righteous Sack Beating from Dooks, who covered a wide range of topics. Needless to say, my man was in peak form with this voicemail as he battled his brain to come up with the right words for his complaint. Even though we never quite got to the point of the VM, I certainly had a healthy chuckle listening to him try to get his train of thought back on the rails.

We're one week away from the start of the 2024-25 NHL season, which means there was plenty to talk about on today's episode of Better Lait Than Never. This week, we're talking pre-season disasters, Darnell Nurse's return to the lineup, and working through whatever was on your mind over the last seven days in another jam-packed edition of the voicemail.
I started this week's podcast with a rant about the NHL pre-season. No, this wasn't an RSB but rather a thought I had to let out after another round of NHL stars had to leave their respective games with injuries. At this point, not only am I over the pre-season, but all these injuries have really punctuated the point that this tune-up period shouldn't be longer than a few games max.
Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, I ran through the latest camp updates now that the team is starting to look a little more like the one we'll see on opening night. The Oilers will also be welcoming Darnell Nurse back to the lineup for his first pre-season game of the year, and I offered yet another set of reasons why he's going to be incredibly important to the team's success. I know there are a lot of people who fixate on his contract, but I'm thinking more about what he can do on the ice when he's at his best.
Lastly, I wrapped up this week's show with some betting talk and a pair of RSBs before diving into this week's lot of voicemails. Even though this week's VM segment was one of the shorter ones we've had in a while, you fantastic folks always bring the heat when it comes to dropping your takes. More importantly, having your feedback on the show is one of the most important parts of BLTN, and I'm always grateful that you took the time to comment. Oh, and subscribe to my YouTube channel.

There's an Oilers pre-season game against the Jets happening tonight, which meant I had to get myself organized if I was going to record the podcast in time to get settled in for the game.
Kicking off the podcast, I started the show with some brand new music from Dangersuede after I spent the last few weeks asking why the BLTN original tunes had stopped flowing in. Seeing as I hadn't listened to the song before it made its debut on the podcast, I gave my first impressions on the new song and loved it so much I had to replay it twice. Speaking of Dangersuede, my dude brought me some of the most delicious desserts you can imagine this past week and the problem has been that I'm eating them too fast.
Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, a report by Elliotte Friedman suggests that the Oilers don't plan to keep Evander Kane on the shelf all season and that he could return to the lineup early in 2025. Seeing as that doesn't fit my plan for the organization to cheat, I wondered out loud how likely that actually is to happen. Is Kane really going to come back in February, or will there be a mysterious soft tissue type of setback that keeps him sidelined for *checks notes* another couple of months.

I also talked about the viral clip of Connor McDavid yelling the dressing room that was flying around the Internet this week, and how I thought it was great to see him get that fired up for a change. McDavid is usually so stoic in his approach to almost anything that hearing him get that animated was music to my ears. I can only imagine how much moments like that must impact his teammates given how generally calm #97 is known to be.
Lastly, I wrapped up this week's show with some betting talk and a pair of RSBs before diving into this week's lot of voicemails.
