Welcome to Episode 83. This week Chris and Jay are joined by Cyber Security Expert and Award Winning Dog Trainer Adam Delderfield. Adam’s a close friend of Pod, A BJJ Whitebelt, a busy father of three, a business owner, a Karate Blackbelt and a fellow Podcaster. Naturally, there are a lot of pearls of wisdom we could search for and we pick Adam’s brains on as much as we can in our time together. Adam gives a few insights into the world of Cyber Security and more than a few insights in the world Animal Training. There’s everything from insights into training your Dog at home as well as how Pigeons were trained to target warships. Not your thing? Well, never fear. We also get Adam’s opinion on the UFC, JiuJitsu and Jay’s horrendous movie recommendations, it’s a lot of fun. So grab your favourite treat, sit down, roll over, stay… we promise this one is Better Than Average.
Chris and Jay are back with Episode 82, Double Trouble. This week Chris finally gets Jay’s thoughts on “The Island” and that prompts a brief but memorable chat about the best movies involving clones. I know what you are thinking, isn’t that a rather niche topic for a Jiujitsu Podcast? Well, you’d be right, but that is what happens when you have no plan and you don’t make edits. Never fear, there is all the normal BJJ and MMA chat this week. We talk Grasso vs Shevchenko and UFC 306, were get an update on Chris’ switch to Gi Jiujitsu and Jay gives us a breakdown of his most frustrating BJJ match ever. It’s all there, it’s raw and it’s unedited but it’s still Better Than Average.
Welcome ladies and gentlemen, this is Episode 81. After a busy summer the boys are finally back in the routine and there are all the normal shenanigans. This week Jay gets a rundown of Great British Holiday, Chris gets a little insight into what it’s like to work with a young and impulsive Jay Swanston and we try to get our heads around what you would expect to be a very simple new feature. It’s fair to say, not everything goes to plan. There is a rather muddled review of Inglorious B*tards, a nostalgic look back on Fawlty Towers and some hilarious insights into Jay’s exploitation of one of the high streets big hitters. Sounds like a very confusing agenda right? That’s because it is, but that is how we roll. If you want a clear and professional product you are in the wrong place. This is a one take kind of show, zero edits, raw and beautifully human. It’s unlikely to be the best Podcast you listen to, but it’s always Better Than Average.
Welcome to Episode 80. This week Chris and Jay talk the biggest head to head in grappling history - CJI vs ADCC. We recap some of the biggest moments of the two tournaments, we discuss the merits of the rulesets and the arena design, and we consider if the shape of grappling is changing. Not your thing? Well never fear, we make a pretty violent segway into MMA and then again into one of the years most violent movies. Spoiler alert, you are about to hear our thoughts on Deadpool and Wolverine. It’s fast paced, it’s a little hectic and it’s Better Than Average.
Welcome to Episode 79. With a big weekend of combat sports ahead there is a lot to talk about. Chris tries to talk CJI, we make some bold predictions about ADCC and Jay gives us his take on the UFC. Don’t worry, it’s not all BJJ and MMA this week. We discuss all things ‘79 which takes us down some very unexpected rabbit holes. There is a lot of history in this one, from the battle at Rorkes Drift to the recent Ukrainian invasion via Maggie Thatchers war on the unions, it’s all covered in a haphazard way. Not one for history? Never fear, we get dragged into a surprisingly in depth analysis of the strongest substances on the planet, i know what you are thinking, does that make for a good podcast? Not sure, but it definitely makes it Better Than Average.
Welcome to episode 78. This week Chris and Jay are reunited after Jay’s long trip to the Philippines and there is a lot to talk about. We join the boys after a feast of Philipino sausages and there is a lot to catch up on. There is the Olympics, UFC 304 and, naturally, Jay’s big tip to the homeland. It’s full of tales of culture clashes and daring journeys into the wilderness. It’s fine, the whole family made it back, but that may be more luck than judgement. Judge for yourself, it’s the big reunion and it’s always Better Than Average.
This week we learn about one of Chris and Jay’s best Training Partners, Nigel, the man with the Voice of an Angel. Now, why did we pick Nigel for Ep 77? Well the reasons are legit, as you will hear. While Uncle Jay and Nigel go way back, for Chris, there is a lot to learn about this tattooed, motorbike riding, bearded blue belt. Nigel fills us in on his BJJ Journey, he gives us a little sample of his extensive MMA Knowledge and gives us an insight into the life of the middle class van man. It’s our first Podcast guest in a while, our first without Uncle Jay and our first time recording in a VW Campervan. How did it go? I don’t want to brag, but it was definitely Better Than Average.
