Learning Objective: Understand the significance and benefits of integrating cybersecurity into innovative biomedical products in healthcare services and products.

Industry 4.0 is a shift from industrial machinery as the primary means of production towards high-performance tuning of the human body and mind with the integration of connected things and objects into the ‘intelligence’ ecosystem of society using intelligent solutions and data analytics to broaden the creation of products and services for all aspects of the human experience. Industry 4.0 introduced a shift in innovation towards integrating physical things and digital technology as a series of global standards designed to accelerate innovation and reduce cost barriers in innovation and product development. The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) provides innovation in healthcare using the integration of our physical, digital, environmental, and biological resources for the first time in recorded human history. For instance, the healthcare industry is experiencing significant and measurable progress in the battle with cancer using nanotechnology particles to target cancer cells without damaging the functioning cells within the human body. This is a minute example of the disruptive technologies and innovations that are the quality of life for humanity that will require cybersecurity to protect the patient and the accuracy of the smart equipment.

At the end of this session, attendees will be able to:

Understand the need for cybersecurity in connected devices within the healthcare industry.

Examine the benefits in cost and speed-to-diagnosis when risk is managed through cybersecurity best practices for smart connected devices.

Further their knowledge of the emerging innovations in the IoMT industry.

Understand the fundamentals of protecting innovation through proactive cybersecurity planning and implementation.
