Marybeth & Ron were invited for a 2nd time to host an episode of The Ripple Effect Podcast at the Workforce Solutions Group MA 16th Annual MA Jobs and Workforce Summit at Northern Essex Community College where they had the privilege of interviewing Chris Shannon, Senior Associate from the Corporation for a Skilled Workforce, who highlights research showing that program participants rank “psychological safety” and a “sense of belonging” as the most important indicators of program and job success—far exceeding wages. This episode focuses on a critical discussion about the need to overhaul data and accountability systems within “workforce development” and employer practices, moving from traditional “transactional metrics” to focusing on “human-centered impact”. The conversation explores the challenges of shifting organizational culture and publicly-funded structures (like the community action agency model) that are bound by mandatory compliance metrics and outputs, arguing that adopting “trauma-informed practices” and genuinely incorporating “learner and employee voice” is essential for creating high-quality, sustainable jobs and a mission-driven work environment.
