This is the first in a four-week sermon series on The Highlight Reel. We live in a world of highlight reels.

SportsCenter gives us the best plays of the game. The news is listed as headlines, reducing stories to clickbait. Obituaries hit the highlights. Social media gives us the best moments of people’s lives.

We post the vacation picture, not the argument in the car on the way there. We post the smiling first-day-of-school picture, but usually not the chaos that happened in the minutes just before it.

A highlight reel isn’t necessarily false. It’s just incomplete.

And we do something similar with the people in the Bible. We take these complicated human lives and reduce them to their greatest moments….Today, we start with King David—You know, David, the boy who killed the giant!
