A matric certificate is a critical tool for young people on their journey to achieving economic productivity. It can increase the likelihood of young people’s ability to secure work, access further education and training opportunities. While many young school leavers celebrate their success in the latest Matric Results, not everyone attained their National Senior Certificate.
At any given year, 250 000 young people attempt to rewrite matric on their own, outside of the full-time schooling system. This is a sizable group of young people who have not given up on their education journey. One of our next guests will speak to us about the Second Chance Matric Programme and the opportunity it provides for learners to rewrite their examinations. Another guest will raise their concerns in relation to the tutoring resources provided for learners and their experience of the programme. Our final guest will speak to the external support they have provided to learners preparing for examinations.
Guest: Dr. Sandy Malapile - Director of the Second Chance Matric Support Programme at the Department of Basic Education
Guest: Kristal Williams-Duncan - Project Lead at Youth Capital
Guest: Vimala Ariyan - Chief Executive Officer of the Star School
