Beyond the Mayflower Steps

In the sixth and final episode of Beyond the Mayflower Steps, we highlight some of the places around the city that have seen visits and performances of famous Americans throughout the years, along with some other musical areas of interest. We also talk with a key figure involved in the Mayflower 400 commemorations about some of the upcoming events.

In Episode 5 of Beyond the Mayflower Steps we examine the Plymouth/American connections during WWII. With a large base set up in Plymouth itself and thousands of troops encamped and training in the surrounding area, we discover that this is only the tip of the iceberg with regards to how deep these connections go.

The American connections to Plymouth are many, and in episode 4, Beyond the Mayflower Steps looks at a story coming out of the war of 1812 that is one of reverence, admiration and respect that demonstrates just how profound some of these international bonds are.

Episode 3 of Beyond the Mayflower Steps looks at the wildly interesting life of Sir Francis Drake and his wide reaching impact on this area and the legacy he has left. From his Island to his Leat, his influence on the history of Plymouth cannot be denied.
