Good is Not Enough!Beyond the Notes with Srikanth
🎧 Intro
Hello and welcome to Beyond the Notes with Srikanth, a space where music, mindset, and mastery come together. I’m your host, Srikanth Chudanath — MusicPreneur, mentor, and lifelong learner. I believe music is not just about the notes we play, but the life we live beyond them.
Today’s episode is titled “Good is Not Enough.” This isn’t just a phrase. It’s a reality, a truth we all must face.
We live in a time where being “good” simply doesn’t cut it anymore. Whether it’s playing an instrument, writing, cooking, or even working out, we may feel confident saying: “I’m good at this.” But when we step into the outside world, that “good” doesn’t always take us forward. Others with the same skills stand out because they aim higher. And that’s when we realize — good is not enough.
🎯 Reality Check
This feeling of being stuck at good is universal. Many of us put in effort, receive compliments, even feel comfortable. But deep inside, we know: we’re not breaking through. The reason is simple — the world is full of “good.” To rise above, we must step into “best.”
My mentor Sidz often talks about the Red Ocean vs Blue Ocean. The Red Ocean is crowded, competitive, and draining. The Blue Ocean is abundant, open, and full of possibility. The only way to reach that Blue Ocean is not by copying others, but by becoming our best selves.
🏏 The Kapil Dev Story
There’s a powerful scene in the movie 83. Kapil Dev tells Roger Binny, “You are good. But good is not enough. We need to be the best to win the World Cup.” And he was right. India didn’t win in 1983 with just good players. They won because individuals rose to their best, and together, they created history.
That’s the same principle in life — being good is safe, but being the best is where freedom begins.
🎹 From My Journey
When I started piano, playing Twinkle Twinkle felt like an achievement. But staying there would never have built Music360 or inspired students. I decided not to settle for good. I pursued Trinity and ABRSM exams, pushed myself daily, and committed to mastery. That shift — from good to best — opened opportunities I couldn’t have imagined.
🧠 The Mindset Shift
True growth isn’t about competing with others. It’s about competing with yourself. Ask: Am I better than yesterday? That’s how mastery is built. Great achievers don’t chase others — they chase their own best.
💡 Reflection
Just recently, at Singapore Airport while planning September, it hit me: I’ve been good at sales, but good won’t get me to my 1 Crore Championship. To break through, I must rise above good and give my best — in sales, in music, in life.
So ask yourself: where are you settling for “good”? Work, health, relationships? Don’t stay there. Decide to level up. Good is safe, but best is where freedom begins.
