Chapter 9: Activating Place: Geography as a Determinant of Indigenous Peoples' Health and Well-being
Dr. de Leeuw, a Research Associate with the NCCAH, adds the concept of geography to the discussion of the social determinants of Indigenous peoples’ health framework. The geographical toolbox is a way of understanding health inequities experienced by Indigenous peoples through their dispossession from traditional territories and the ongoing environmental devastation to their landscapes. She argues that reterritorialization is imperative to improving the health and well-being of Indigenous peoples.

Chapitre 9 – La réappropriation des terres traditionnelles – la géographie comme déterminant de la santé et du bien-être des peuples autochtones, avec Sarah de Leeuw
Sarah de Leeuw, associée de recherche auprès du CCNSA, ajoute la notion de géographie à la discussion sur les déterminants sociaux de la santé des peuples autochtones. La boîte à outils géographique est une manière de comprendre les inégalités subies par les peuples autochtones en raison de la dépossession de leurs territoires traditionnels et de la dévastation environnementale continue de leurs terres. Elle allègue que la reterritorialisation est impérative pour améliorer la santé et le bien-être des peuples autochtones.
