Have you ever had to explain a joke in such detail - it lost its allure?  Sure.  We've all had that happen.

In dealing with a neurodivergent child, jokes often miss the mark. They can understand the pieces, and they can understand how they fit together.

But to them, it's sort of like saying, hey - 2+2.  It equals 4!  That's hilarious, am I right???

They understand the parts and how the parts add up to give a sum.

But a sum is not funny. It is the answer to a problem.

We are a funny family.  Our household is FILLED with laughter.

As a matter of fact, about 3 times out of the week, someone will make a pun at the dinner table, and then we all will jump all over that and add to the mix.  It gets so old, that it's not funny anymore - and then we drag it beyond its miserable death and breathe new life into it until we resurrect it with more laughter.  That's how silly we are.  That's how much we laugh.  So - was that part of the reason why Mikey began to develop his own flare?  Was laughter truly the best medicine to fix his funny bone?  I'll never know!  All I know is... my boy is funny now!  And it all began with his first joke.
