It is remarkably easy to make quick judgments, to dismiss what appears unproductive or broken at first glance. The fig tree, deemed useless by the landowner, held unseen potential in the eyes of the discerning gardener. Similarly, a struggling newborn, quickly dismissed by some, was given a lifeline through Virginia Apgar's careful observation. How often do we apply such cursory assessments to ourselves or to others? True compassion calls us beyond the surface, to look deeper into the 'why' of situations, to understand the hidden struggles, the unseen conditions, and the unspoken needs. Today, practice seeing with fresh eyes. When you encounter something or someone that seems challenging, pause. Ask God for the grace to look past appearances, to seek the deeper truth, and to respond not with judgment, but with a spirit of patient inquiry and hopeful care. Every soul, like every tree, has a story embedded in its roots.
