In this episode of Beyond the Target, Rob and Jeromy compare seven different 30 cal cartridges to see what you're really getting when you move from classics like the .308 Winchester and .30-06 into cartridges like 300 Win Mag, 300 PRC, 300 Norma, and the Moses Wildcats.

Using a 178gr Hornady ELD-M as the common bullet, they compare velocity, energy, drop, powder charge, powder cost, recoil, efficiency, and overall usefulness.

One of the biggest surprises is how similar the magnums look when using the Hornady book data. In the comparison, 300 Win Mag, 300 PRC, and 300 Norma all land at roughly the same 3,100 FPS muzzle velocity, while the 308.6 Moses reaches that same speed using significantly less powder.

The discussion also turns into a bigger question:

How much extra powder, recoil, and cost is another 300–500 FPS really worth?

Then Rob and Jeromy make their picks.

With Wildcats included, Rob chooses the 308 Moses, while Jeromy goes with the 308.6 Moses. Remove the Wildcats, and Rob chooses 300 Win Mag while Jeromy takes the .30-06.
