Baja Govindam - Sloka 5

What do elders/teachers do in our homes/schools, when we they try to teach a complex subject to our children/students?

Talk about at least two things connected to these children/students and are dear to them; then try and relate the subject to these two things so that the children/students can easily grasp and will be attentive.

It is this strategy that Adi Shankara uses in the tenth sloka of Baja Govindam. He takes two things that are dear to a normal human being , viz.,

1. Physical pleasures, Sex/Lust - a physiological and biological urge/need

2. Wealth - Economic and social need

Using these two, he conveys to the spiritually ignorant, the profound philosophy of impermanence.

Adi Sankara squeezes the essence of his previous nine slokas and presents them to us in this wonderful sloka.

பஜ கோவிந்தம் - ஸ்லோகம் 5

நமது இல்லங்களில்/பள்ளிகளில் குழந்தைகளுக்கோ அல்லது மாணவ மாணவியர்களுக்கோ, ஏதேனும் ஒரு ஆழ்ந்த தத்துவத்தை உணர வைக்க முயலும் போது முதியோர்கள்/ஆசிரியர்கள் என்ன செய்வர் ? சிறுவர்களுக்கு விருப்பமானதாகவும், அவர்களுக்குள் இணைந்ததாகவும், அவர்கள் எளிதில் பிடித்துக்கொள்ளக்கூடிய இரண்டு விஷயங்களையாவது சம்பந்தப்படுத்தி (இணைத்து) பேசி, அந்தக்குழந்தைகள்/மாணவ மாணவியர்களின் கவனத்தை அந்த தத்துவத்தின் மீது நிலைக்க வைப்பர், அல்லவா! இது ஆசான்கள் கடைப்பிடிக்கும் ஒரு யுக்தி.

இந்த யுக்தியைத்தான் ஆதிசங்கரர், பஜ கோவிந்தம் பத்தாவது ஸ்லோகத்தில் கடைப்பிடிக்கிறார். அவர்:

1. உடலியல் மற்றும் உயிரியல் தேவைகளால் நம்மோடு இணைக்கப்பட்டு நாம் விரும்பும் காமம்

2. பொருளாதார, சமூக ரீதியால் நம்முடன் இணைக்கப்பட்டு, நாம் மிகவும் விரும்பும் செல்வம்.

என்ற இரண்டு விஷயங்களை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு ஆன்மீகத்தில் அறிவிலிகளாகிய நமக்கு, நிலையாமை எனும் ஆழ்ந்த தத்துவத்தை உணர்த்துகிறார்.
