In Ephesians 3:8–11, Paul continues explaining the mystery of the Gospel and the incredible riches we have in CHRIST.

Paul describes himself as “less than the least of all saints,” yet he has been given the grace to preach the “unsearchable riches of Christ.” These riches are so vast that we can never come to the end of knowing and appreciating CHRIST.

We also examine the “fellowship of the mystery,” the work of the HOLY SPIRIT in revealing spiritual truth, and the role of the church in making known the manifold wisdom of GOD.

Paul then explains that GOD’s wisdom is being made known to the “principalities and powers in heavenly places.” We consider what this means, how it connects with the angels’ desire to look into the Gospel, and why Hebrews 1 reminds us that CHRIST is greater than the angels.

Ultimately, all of this points back to GOD’s eternal purpose in CHRIST.

The Gospel is bigger than our individual circumstances. GOD is accomplishing an eternal purpose through CHRIST, and believers have the privilege of being used by HIM as part of that purpose.

If you have received the Gospel, what are you supposed to do with it?

In Ephesians 3:1-8, Paul explains the ministry God gave him to preach the Gospel to the Gentiles and reveal the mystery of Christ. But Paul’s example points to a responsibility that every Christian should take seriously: we have been given the good news of Jesus Christ, and we are called to make Him known.

As we continue through Ephesians, we’ll look at why Paul considered his ministry a gift of God’s grace, what the “mystery” of Christ really was, and what it means for us to be faithful stewards of the Gospel we’ve received.

In Ephesians 2:19–22, Paul shows us what it means to belong to Christ. We are no longer strangers or foreigners, but citizens of heaven, members of God’s household, and living stones being built together into His holy temple. Our citizenship wasn’t earned, our adoption wasn’t deserved, and our place in God’s house wasn’t built by us—it was secured through the finished work of Christ on the cross.

Built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Jesus Christ Himself as the chief cornerstone, the church is being fitly joined together in Him. Jew and Gentile, once separated, are now one body in Christ—and God Himself dwells among His people through the Holy Spirit.

In this episode, we explore our identity as citizens of heaven, members of God’s family, and part of the dwelling place of God.

In Ephesians 2:15–18, Paul explains how Jesus Christ broke down the wall of hostility between Jews and Gentiles and made the two into “one new man.” To understand just how radical this was, we look at the conversion of Cornelius in Acts 10—the first recorded Gentile conversion.

Cornelius feared God and prayed to Him, but he was not yet a believer in Christ. When Peter preached the Gospel, Cornelius and the other Gentiles believed, and the Holy Ghost came upon them. The Jewish believers were astonished that God had granted salvation and the Holy Ghost to Gentiles.

Paul explains that Christ abolished the enmity created by the law and reconciled both Jew and Gentile to God through the same cross. The Jew needed reconciliation. The Gentile needed reconciliation. And there is only one sacrifice sufficient for both: Jesus Christ.

In Christ, those who were “afar off” and those who were “nigh” are brought together and given access to the Father by one Spirit.

In Ephesians 2:11–14, Paul reminds Gentile believers of what they once were: separated from Christ, strangers from the covenants of promise, without hope, and without God in the world. But everything changed through Jesus Christ.

In this episode, we look at the biblical and historical background of the “middle wall of partition,” including the soreg in the temple that separated the Court of the Gentiles from the inner areas of the temple. We explore the distinction between Jews and Gentiles under the Old Covenant, the biblical evidence that Gentiles could truly come to faith in God, and Paul’s teaching that physical descent from Abraham was never enough.

Through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, those who were once “far off” have been “made nigh by the blood of Christ.” Christ is our peace, breaking down the wall of separation and making believing Jews and Gentiles one in Him.

In Christ, the wall is down. Those who were once far off have been brought near.
