Today's episode builds into one of a couple passages most commonly used as proof-texts for the subjugation of women in the church (1 Timothy 2). This passage and this episode force a high degree of thoughtfulness in order to reconcile this brief statement with the rest of the teaching and practice of Paul in the New Testament (and God's design as we examined it in episode #1 of this series). This hard work of discernment and interpretation is unavoidable if we are to retain all of Scripture as a unified whole.
