BIFROST: Into the Aurora

Heins Kim- Creator and Executive Producer

Born in Southern California to Korean-immigrant parents from Germany. Heins Kim has shown and curated shows in Los Angeles and New York. He studied Painting at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. While based in New York City for the past 14 years, Kim has also lived and worked throughout Europe, Hong Kong and the island of Macau. Kim’s multi-media work address’s cultural issues through Drawing, Sculpture and Installation. His diverse background and experiences informs much of his work. By intercepting and distinguishing the suppressed cultural ideals that are frequently lost to the shortening memory of our media-obsessed global society. Eastern and Western conceptions are called into question. Globalization is one contributory factor in blurring traditions as cultural origins become increasingly diverse. Regardless of medium Heins Kim’s work explores color, form and composition through a formal aesthetic. Since 2012, he has been working with his creative partner, Eric Adamsons on a multifaceted project to see beyond the two dimensional realm. For the past 4 years, Bifröst has partnered with numerous institutions, educators and researchers, in association with NASA, in order to launch our imaging payload into the Aurora Borealis.

Matt Cullen- Executive Producer, Finisher and Fixer

Los Angeles native, Matt studied social sciences with a double major in Sociology with emphasis on deviant behavior and Photography. After college, Matt spent a few years pursuing the outdoor lifestyle that he grew up with by working in various US ski resorts, and traveled the United states on adventurous expeditions. As a science enthusiast, Matt explored theory and experimentation throughout his travels which activated his interest in the family business of metal finishing, where he currently serves as the VP and COO at Valley Plating. An avid patron of the Arts, Matt has been backing works of Heins Kim since they graduated from high school and is currently a major sponsor of Bifrost, Into the Aurora.
