Read John 11
John 11:5 KJVS - Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
Many times we have heard of the story of Mary and Martha, and how Jesus favoured one and rebuked the other respectively in the matter of choosing to be with Word versus choosing to be busy with house chores. But we see that Jesus was not choosing one sister over the other per se. Jesus was excited about the one’s choice of activity over the other’s choice of activity. Jesus likes certain things, and not certain people per se. If you find out what pleases the Lord and you do it, you become His favourite! You become God’s favourite person when you begin to do God’s favourite things.
It’s obvious that Mary needed to add something extra to her life, even though she was just great with loving the Word. And it’s clear Martha needed to add something extra to her life too, even though she was simply caught up in the works! Both of then needed a little change in their lives. Both of them needed revival!
Revival comes with the resurrection from the dead. It is because of Jesus’s testimony of the resurrection that we can believe in hopeless situations turning around. How could Mary change and become a little bit more into make-up, baking cakes and pastries, setting the dinner table with some sumptuous fufu and light soup, in addition being a lover of the Word? What would it take to make Martha start listening to a sermon while in kitchen, or sharing scriptures to friends on WhatsApp instead of only funny videos and messages. They were both girls Jesus loved. They both needed to undergo specific changes in order to become utterly bridal for the King. Remember, Jesus loved both of them- and their brother!
Someone’s got to die to release the power that is needed for upgradement, advancement, revival and resurrection. And in Mary and Martha’s home, it had to take the death of Lazarus, their brother!
Sometimes having a brother, or a “big” brother can make a girl spoilt and just too comfortable to move into higher zones of personal excellence and achievement. A girl’s big brother could be their daddy, their biological brother, their uncle, boss at work, lover, husband or just that man in their lives that they are tempted to keep looking up to, convincing themselves that, “’ Big brother’ will cover me when it comes to the bills”, or “ Big brother will help me buy the paint”, or “ Big brother will shield me from predator lovers”. Hello lady friend, can I suggest this to you. You are never going to grow up into your Jesus- desired bridal self if you keep looking up to the hard body masculine fellows in your circle that they would be the one to do this and that for you in the time of trouble, so you can keep on sleeping and wasting precious time that could have been used to build you up into a nice, responsible, hardworking, productive, beautiful, Word-loving and Word- preaching, financially independent woman! God is about to take your big brother Lazarus away just to see if your eyes will be opened and reddened to begin to fight for the improvement of your life.
Amos 6:1 KJVS - Woe to them that are at ease in Zion..
Isaiah 32:9-11 KJVS - Rise up, ye women that are at ease; hear my voice, ye careless daughters; give ear unto my speech.
10 Many days and years shall ye be troubled, ye careless women: for the vintage shall fail, the gathering shall not come.
11 Tremble, ye women that are at ease; be troubled, ye careless ones: strip you, and make you bare, and gird sackcloth upon your loins.
Woe to the complacent women! Woe to those who are at ease in Zion! Your Lazarus may be just about vanishing. Can you survive without your Big Brother Lazarus?
