I cannot express how DeMaio captured the ability to express the trials & tribulations of a child going through cancer treatments. From explaining what cancer actually is (in a kid-friendly way), to assuring the reader that they (or someone they know) will be ok during this difficult time. I am aware that DeMaio wrote this in memory of a best friend, Charles, who lost his battle with cancer a few years ago. She made a promise to him- and DeMaio kept her promise. And, I'd say she did a pretty awesome job at it... If you know someone who's child is going through an illness, this is an age-appropriate book to read with them. Highly recc'd! BUY THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!
Big Charles is a complete delight!
Ms. DeMaio has written a sensitive, inspirational, and upbeat story for little people. She was moved to write her book by the experience of her close friend Charles Pasdera who battled the disease with a great attitude and much bravery. Big Charles delights on many levels. Not only does it encourage children battling cancer to have hope but it also encourages every child to develop compassion for others and to see how a positive outlook on life is a powerful tool for transformation and good health As a mother, grandmother, and professional nanny I recommend this wonderful book to everyone.
