At the turn of the 20th century the coal industry in Appalachia was experiencing such a boom that operators had to bring in workers from eastern and southern Europe to work in the mines.  One of these workers was a Russian man his fellow workers dubbed "Big John."  And Big John had quite an impact on those other miners, in life and in death.  Today we tell his tale.
