“Our town was beautiful with stationery buildings in baroque style. We had many biochemists who were researching to find a cure for ulceration and studying quantum physics. They even studied the inset, you know. But the government called us “aberrant people” because we supposedly tried to threaten the government. Now that I think of, I think the government was trying to deflect the town’s attention. The entire townsmen started to get serious about this whole issue and started to plan the attack. Of course we all were emaciated, but scratching the itch felt good,” said Voca.

“아름다운 우리 마을엔 바로크 스타일의 문구 빌딩들이 즐비했고 수 많은 생화학자들이 궤양 치료법을 찾기 위해 끊임없이 연구했고 양자물리학을 공부했었지. 심지어 그들은 삽화 마저도 공부할 정도였다니까. 그런데 정부는 우리를 “도리를 벗어난 인간들” 이라고 불렀어, 왜냐면 우리가 정부를 협박했다나 뭐라나. 지금에와서 생각해보면 정부가 우리의 관심을 다른곳으로 돌리려고 했던것 같아. 우리 마을 사람들은 이 문제에 대해서 심각하게 받아들였고 공격에 대한 계획을 세웠어. 당연히 우리는 수척해졌지만 가려운곳을 긁어주는 느낌은 정말 좋았어,” Voca 가 말했다.

“상원의원들은 우리를 세게 쳤고, 병약자들을 질식사시켰고, 우리를 끈적끈적한 진흙탕으로 밀어 넣은 다음에 공기를 들이마시지 못하게 했어. 어떤 문제를 회피하려고만 하는 엉큼한 사람들은 이 상황에서 벗어나기 위해 그들의 머리를 굴에 파묻으려했지. 그리고 어쩔 수 없이 죽어가는 사람 수는 세배를 뛰어 넘었고,” Voca 가 덧붙혔다.

“So when things started to worsen, the caucus, the prefect, and the plenary had a meeting in an islet. It was to come up with ostensible reason. We know this because the door was left ajar. “상황이 악화되어가자 간부들, 도지사들, 그리고 총회가 작은 섬에서 회의를 열었어. 그냥 표면적인 이유를 만들어 내기 위함이였지. 우리가 이걸 아는 이유는 문이 약간 열려있었기 때문이야. 그리고 대담한 마을사람들 중 한명이 장비를 점검해주는 전문가로 변장하고는 회의도중에 들어가 외쳤지, “우리에게 자유를 주고, 관대함을 보여라!” Voca 가 소리쳤다.

“That was when the Senators knew how recalcitrant we were. Of course they were disgruntled. They called us names like scum and muck. They said they were just bantering, but they were lying. Then they drove their sedans and left the meeting place. The next day, on the newspaper, it said that our townsmen had “fetish” about freedom. The Senators succeeded to noose us. Everyone’s hatred toward our town began to escalate. Man, that sultry afternoon burned us all,” said Voca.

“그때가 되서야 상원의원들은 우리가 얼마나 고집이 센 사람들인지 알게된거야. 당연히 그들은 언짢았겠지. 그들은 우리들을 인간 쓰레기 혹은 아주 불쾌한것이라고 불렀어. 그들에 의하면 그들은 그저 농담을 주고 받았을 뿐이라고 그랬지만 거짓말이였지. 그 다음엔 그들은 자신들의 세단형 자동차를 타고 회의장을 빠져나갔어. 다음날 신문에는 우리의 마을 사람들은 자유를 향한 병적인 집착을 한다고 적혀있더라. 상원의원들이 우리를 옭아매는데 성공한거지. 모두가 우리마을을 싫어했고 그 혐오감은 점점 확대되었어. 그 날의 후덥지근한 오후는 우리를 모두 불태워버렸지,” Voca 가 말했다.
