What is prayer?  What is prayer meant to be like for the Christian?  Though J.R.R. Tolkien was famous in denying any grand allegory  to the Christian message, we take  a short excerpt from "The Hobbit" and find in it a wonderful image of prayer for the follower of Christ.  What does prayer have in common with climbing a tree in the middle of a dark forest?  May it be an encouragement to our prayer life.
