This discussion explores bilingualism as both a powerful asset and a potential challenge. It examines the cognitive and academic advantages bilingual individuals often enjoy, such as enhanced memory, problem-solving skills, and academic performance. At the same time, it addresses the social and identity struggles that may arise, including discrimination or the pressure to conform to one language or culture. Focusing on the Colombian context, the synopsis looks at how bilingualism is experienced in schools and homes. Additionally, it considers how code-switching—shifting between languages—serves as a reflection of cultural hybridity, revealing the complex and dynamic identities of bilingual speakers.
