Author and historian Bill Federer who lectures on American history details the revival that broke out just before the Civil War. The dramatic spiritual events sweeping the country with the Abolitionist Movement paved the way for the abolishment of slavery and led to the Civil War. A key evangelist of the Second Great Awakening was Charles Finney, founder of Oberlin College. As the revival fires of the Second Great Awakening spread across the country, it also went overseas and birthed a number of organizations that are still with us today, including the YMCA, Salvation Army, and Boy Scouts of America.
